The Legend of Sarila is the story of Markussi, a young Inuit man, who sets out with two friends to find the legendary land of Sarila which will save his clan from the brink of starvation. Encountering numerous dangers on their journey and pursued by the wrath of the clan’s shaman, the trio seek to save their people by restoring the balance to their Arctic home. The Wiz – Christmas Night 25th Friday

A family favourite, this 1978 twist on the classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz stars Diana Ross and Michael Jackson in a musical adventure film. Set in New York City the film follows Dorothy, a schoolteacher from Harlem, on an adventure to the Land of Oz where she befriends a Scarecrow, a Tin Man and a Lion on her journey to find the mysterious Wiz who has the power to transport her home. The movie is loosely based on the cult 1974 musical and was nominated for four Academy Awards.

Kaitangata Twitch – Online until 26th Saturday

Based on a popular children’s book by Margaret Mahy, this New Zealand film follows 12 year old Meredith who faces the mysterious happenings on Kaitangata Island. As the only one who notices the island’s ‘twitch’ as it is drilled for mining, Meredith must understand its eerie past in order to stop a tragedy that occurred 50 years ago from repeating itself. Combining the Maori concept of wairua, a spirit that lingers after death and a 21st Century heroine, the film was applauded overseas winning an award at the Houston International Film Festival in 2010.
