Indigenous politician Ken Wyatt is being joined by fellow Liberal and Labor parliamentarians in calling for a 2016 referendum to recognise Indigenous people in the Constitution.

The bipartisan committee says the referendum should be held at or just after the next federal election.

The eight politicians of the joint select committee are also calling for the removal or curbing of racial discrimination in the Constitution.
