Before we go any further....What’s a Janken Tournament?

You know how sometimes you play Rock-Papper-Scissors with your friends? (Or, if you’re like me… Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock) It’s like that, but more intense.

More intense because in an AKB48 Janken Tournament, you have a solo debut on the line! And if you've already had your solo debut, you get a solo concert.

It's fair to say that this style of Janken is SERIOUS BUSINESS!

Regular AKB48 members went straight through to the final round.

The rest (members from of Team 8, SKE48, NMB48, and HKT48 as well as AKB48 kenkyuusei/trainee members) had to battle it out in a preliminary round in August, to see who would go through to the finals.

This year’s winner of the Janken Tournament was Miyuki Watanabe (from NMB48 Team BII, SKE48 Team S).

She defeated Haruna Kojima, from AKB48’s Team 8 and has now been promised a solo debut! Tokyo Hive has reported Miyuki Watanabe as saying "I feel that I am finally able to repay everyone who has supported me. I don't think a solo debut is easy, but I will do my best."
