J-Pop boy band Arashi have made it to number one in the Oricon weekly charts, with their new album Digitalian.
The number one spot isn’t that surprising, given that JPopAsia has reported that in the first week of sales, Digitalian sold 660, 000 copies. Not only does this mean continuing success for our favourite JPop stars with their own TV show (okay MY favourite JPop stars with their own TV show), it also means they’re on equal footing with EXILE.
EXILE previously held the record for group with most years in a row with a number 1. Now, Arashi have joined them. EXILE’s streak began in 2003, but it doesn’t look as though they’ll be releasing a new album this year.
That means, if Arashi (who’s streak began in 2004 with “Iza, Now!”) release an album next year and it gets to number 1, they will beat EXILE’s record!
But just because they’ve got a number 1, doesn’t mean that Arashi get to have break! Quite the opposite. Next month, they’ll be beginning their biggest ever dome tour, performing 18 times from November 14 to December 23.
