AKB48's 38th single "Kibouteki Refrain" topped the Japanese Oricon charts in its first week with sales reaching 1,130,000 copies.

This means the total sales for AKB48's singles have reached 31,111,000 copies since their debut back in February 2006.

They're the second artist to achieve the 30 million sales figures for singles after male Japanese rock duo B'z (35.443 million single sales).

AKB48 burst through the 30million sales benchmark in 8 years and 10 months, since their debut, becoming the fastest to achieve that number in history. It took 14 years and 7 months for B'z to break 30million single sales.

"Kibouteki Refrain" is also their 25th consecutive chart-topping single.
