Sony Pictures has admitted that Yoon Mi Rae‘s song “Pay Day” was used without authorisation in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s controversial film, The Interview.

Sony Pictures stated, “We admit to using Yoon Mi Rae’s song ‘Pay Day’ prior to formal licensing authorization. Also, we would want to emphasize the point that using this track in the film did not mean Yoon Mi Rae, Tiger JK, and Feel Good Music agreed to the content of our film. Both parties have resolved this issue peacefully and hope to not bring it up again.”

Feel Good Music eventually hired an American attorney after the two parties failed to reach an agreement after 4 months. The agreed settlement has not been disclosed to the public.

South Korean artist Yoon Mi Rae is suing Sony Pictures for use of her song “Pay Day” in the controversial new movie The Interview without permission.

Yoon Mi Rae’s record label Feel Ghood Music has admitted they were in discussions with Sony to let them licence the song, but no terms were ever agreed on.

“There were initial discussions for using ‘Pay Day’ in the movie, but at some point, the discussions ceased and we assumed that it would not follow through,” a Feel Ghood Music representative stated. “However, after the movie was released, we learned that the track had been used without permission, legal procedure, or contracts.”

They added, “We will be taking legal action against Sony Pictures as well as DFSB, the agency that had been carrying out the discussion regarding the use of the track.”

The Interview: a comedy film by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg that depicts the assassination of the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un finally opened to limited release across the US recently after the entertainment giant was threatened with hacking attacks. It is now Sony’s highest grossing online film ever; earning more that $15 million from online sales and rentals alone.
