U.S magazine Rolling Stone has paid credence to South Korea’s music scene in its end of year lists once again featuring HyunA’s “Red” in its “10 Best Music Videos of 2014”.

“Red” came in at number five in the following list:

10. St Vincent – “Digital Witness”

9.  OG Maco – “You Guessed It”

8. Brooke Candy – “Opulence”

7. Disclosure – “Grab Her”

6. Perfume Genius – “Queen”

5. HyunA – “Red”

4. Taylor Swift – “Blank Space”

3. Beyonce – “Pretty Hurts”

2. DJ Snake feat. Lil Jon - “Turn Down for What”

1. Sia – “Chandelier

Rolling Stone staff writer Jessica Suarez had this to say about the video,

“Hyuna’s K-pop hit is a schizophrenic mess, switching from trap and hip-hop to bubbly pop and slinky Middle Eastern electro. The video does its best to keep up: While rapid scene shifts follow the song’s structure, wild images bring its lyrics to life. ‘A monkey’s butt is red,’ goes the chorus, and on screen, a monkey with a bright red butt appears. ‘My lipstick is red…’ and just like that, Hyuna’s wiggling on a pair of giant lips. The part where Hyuna’s about to cry? That’s when she’s singing about being lonely. Some major Korean broadcasters thought the original video was too hot for TV, which means it might just right for an American crossover.”

I wonder if the writer knows the song is based on a nursery rhyme?

HyunA joins 2NE1 in receiving Rolling Stone accolades; the 4 member girl group’s Crush featuring in the magazine’s "20 Best Pop Albums of 2014" list.
