As it's International Women’s on the 8th of March, I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of awesome ladies in Anime and JPop that are my role models.
9. Sunako Kirishiki (From Shiki)
Is she an ancient evil? Is she just some poor kid mixed up with a bad crowd? You’ll have to read the manga/watch the series Shiki to find out.
What you should know is that kid is not one to be underestimated and despite some....let's call it controversial eating habits, she's also incredibly strong as a person.
8. Ayumi Hamasaki
This Party Queen (see what I did there?) is one the most successful artists of ALL TIME in Japan. Despite announcing she’d gone deaf in one ear in 2008, she’s continued to pump out massive hits.
She’s also teamed up with Hello Kitty for a fashion line, she’s hosted T.V shows, she was in a cartoon.... Pretty much she can do all of the things.
7. The Sailor Guardians
I just love them all, okay? I love that there is more than one, I love that your favourite doesn’t need to be Sailor Moon. They show what happens when people get together with a common goal in mind.
6. Honoka Kōsaka (from Love! Live!)
She just makes me happy. She’s not the smartest student, the fastest athlete or even the best singer! But she works hard to make others feel like they’re included in what’s going on
5. Hatsune Miku.
Who run the world? Vocaloid girls!
She’s only 16 and she’s released multiple hits, has her own videogame, her performances drive fans wild and she even went on U.S talk shows (despite actually not actually being corporeal).
Okay, so in all that time that she’s been around she hasn’t aged. But I’m not holding that against her.
4. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
This lady proves you can be cute and in control.
From styling unique fashion to her songs, she works hard and is always pushing the boundaries in one way or another. If that weren't enough, she's stayed so strong in the face of a lot of rumours and I can't help but respect anyone who can do that.
3. Princess Mononoke
She proves you don't even need to be raised BY humans to be an awesome one. She defends the environment, she fights for what she believes in and she's not afraid to tell it how she sees it. Plus that glare.
-gulp- I'm a little afraid of her.
She began as a singer in an indie band. From there she has grown a highly successful and much celebrated career. She's not afraid to be herself and to have fun.
1. Major Motoko Kusanagi
She’s smart, she’s athletic and she gets the job done!
Despite the fact she’s basically a mass-produced product (what with being a machine and everything), she’s unique and I think this is the best possible attribute of Motoko Kusanagi beecause everyone can appreciate that.
Due to the fact there is only a finite amount of time in the world (and they say I’m not allowed to use ALL of it to write this list) this list can never encompass all the amazing women in J-Pop and anime.
