Where has the time gone? How did all of this happen in just 12 months?!
16 Dec 2015 - 6:22 PM  UPDATED 16 Dec 2015 - 6:22 PM

2015 is the year where SCANDAL said HELLO WORLD (but didn't come to Australia....SADNESS), Shonen Knife's bassist had a baby and Jin Akanishi released an interactive album....

If you haven't noticed, 2015 for J-Pop has been kind of a big deal.

1. Arashi

I'm not just adding these guys because I'm an Arashian. Every time they release a single, it goes to number 1. To not mention them in any J- Pop list is against the law. Literally.

The members of Arashi did all kinds of things this year, from designing the artwork on planes...

...To topping charts and starring in movies.

Next year will be even better for them too.... Because I'll meet them and marry Nino.... A lady can dream, okay?

2. The Hoopers

You'll know them from such rookie group lists as SBS Pop Asia's rookie group nominations list. They're the second generation of group Fudanjuku. They've also appeared on SBS PopAsia TV, achieving your suit goals.

They made their debut this year and have come along in leaps and bounds. Literally. Their back flips are too good.

They released more singles, they came to Australia....THEY CAME TO AUSTRALIA YOU GUYS!

Look, I don't need to tell you why they're amazing, let me just show you....

4.The '48 groups.

There are so many '48 groups and idols, it's hard to condense it all into one snap shot for you. My highlights was the MV with light sabres and the crowing of Sashihara Rino from HKT48 as Queen of AKB48!

They also BROKE Ayumi Hamasaki and Morning Musume's records in the charts for most consecutive singles at number one for female artists. All in a day's work, I guess.

5. Perfume

Speaking of queens of J-Pop.... This year was kind of a big deal for Perfume!

They celebrateed 15 years of being a group, they helped launch the new iPhone....

They also performed at SXSW, launched a documentary, held a fan dance competition AND....AND....celebrated 10 years since their major debut.

I'm tired....I need to sit down.

6.Hamada Bamyu Bamyu's debut

If you misseed the memo, Hamada Bamyu Bamyu is a parody of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. But I still think this is adorable.

Whether it was J-Soul Brothers or Generations, fans of EXILE TRIBE had plenty to celebrate in 2015.

My favourite thing of theirs for this year will always be this MV.....For steampunk reasons.

Their world tour, their album, their Twitter feed.

If you weren't following them this year, I just kind of feel sorry for you.

9.Ayumi Hamasaki

She may have had her record broken by AKB48 and their single Green Flash, but as IF that would stop the Empress of J-Pop!

2015 has been big for Ayumi Hamasaki from CMs that feature Miranda Kerr to releasing her 16th album and 6th EP!

Combine that with all of her amazing MVs, like this latest one.....

If you missed hearing about Ayumi Hamasaki in 2015, you missed out on big things. But don't worry, I have a feeling that the Empress of J-Pop isn't going to be slowing down that much in 2016!

The J-pop idol group that features an Aussie who's also a wrestler!

Sing it with me now...NIPPON MANJU!!!!

While cryptic tweets from front man Fukase kept the gossip wheel churning about him and his girlfriend/not girlfriend/the importance of colours and how they spell out people break up.... It was actually an even bigger year for SEKAI NO OWARI the group.

Whether you enjoyed the Attack On Titan movies or not, it was kind of a big deal for SEKAI NO OWARI to put down a track for each movie.

SEKAI NO OWARI are on a real winning streak at the moment.

12. LiSA

She was a voice in the Japanese dub of Minions, she released a new album and singles! She sang a song about mermaids.... She pretty much just did everything.

She's also my best friend (if I say it often enough it will become true).

13. Goose House

If you haven't stumbled onto the delightful tones that are Goose House then you're in for a treat. This year they uploaded a stack of anime covers to Youtube for your listening pleasure. But this has to be one of my favourites of all their uploads this year....

You're welcome.

Not only were we treated to Wataridori And Dracu-la-la and they joined the SBS Pop Asia crew!

And that's it for the 2015.....

Ahahahaaa, but not really because I haven't mentioned....

I left them till last to tease you!

These girls were huge last year and they're even bigger this year. They have their own Pop Vinyl figures and if that's not a sign you're super famous, then I don't know what is....

As with all lists, there's not enough time or Internet to list everything that was awesome for J-Pop in 2015. But I bet we can come close if you leave your favourite groups/events in J-Pop in the comments below.

What was the best J-Pop act for YOU in 2015?
