Zayn Malik's departure from One Direction has caused a hole in the fandom's heart so big that they are still grieving the loss on Twitter with each passing month without the former boybander. #1monthwithoutZayn, #2monthswithoutZayn, #9monthswithoutZayn, their mourning knows no bounds.

Easing the pain, however, is Zayn's solo work, which is essentially the musical equivalent of the fire emoji.

His latest single, "BeFoUr", from his upcoming album Mind Of Mine, is a total bop. To celebrate its release, we're taking a walk down memory lane and looking at all the other artists who left their groups to go on to massive success as a solo artist.

1. Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams shattered the hearts of millions of '90s girls when he left Take That, but those hearts were quickly pieced back together as he went onto incredible success as a solo artist, even collaborating with the unoffical queen of Australia, Kylie Minogue.

2. Justin Timberlake

One of the most successful boybander-turned-solo-artist stories of all time, JT's bops speak for themselves, really. I mean, he literally brought sexy back in a time when we didn't know it was missing. #whenwillyourfaves

3. Beyonce

Kelly and Michelle who??? Ever since King Bey ditched the girl group, she's become one of the most successful solo artists of all time. 'Nuff said, really.

4. Gwen Stefani

When Gwen went solo with "What You Waiting For?" the world responded with "Gurl, same. What were YOU waiting for sticking with No Doubt for so long?" this queen of pop music and spelling taught us all how to spell bananas. She returned to No Doubt in 2012, but we're all waiting for her to ~wind it up~ with a new solo album.

5. Fergie

Fergie ditched the Black Eyed Peas boys and taught us all that big girls don't cry. Like Gwen, she's since returned to the group, but we're all still waiting for new solo endeavors from the Fergalicious diva herself.

6. JYJ

Once they were 3 members of TVXQ, and now they are JYJ (but to old faithfuls, they are still TVXQ). Due to woes with SM Entertainment, the 3 boys (Junsu, Jaejoong and Yuchun) walked away, and while we'll always mourn the parting of ways, we are sure glad that the boys also do a lot of solo stuff, too!

7. Jay Park

After leaving band 2pm, Park released his solo debut, Count On Me in July 2010, going platinum in South Korea and cementing his status as a solo legend.

8. Nick Jonas

After the Jonas Brothers went their separate ways in 2013, Nick re-emerged as a newly ripped solo artist. Bringing the bangers with "Jealous", he is currently co-headling a tour of the States with pop princess Demi Lovato.

9. Mel C

When the Spice Girls split, each of the five girls pursued solo efforts, but it was Mel C who delivered all the bops that have stood the test of time. "I Turn To You" is a dance anthem for the ages, "When You're Gone" with Bryan Adams is a classic pop hit, and "Never Be The Same Again" with TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes has aged like a fine wine.

10. Lee Hyori

After leaving Fin.K.L, Lee quickly went on to become one of Korea's most popular girl-groupers-gone-solo, with stacks-on-stacks of hits like "Bad Girls", "U Go Girl" and "Miss Korea". #badgirlsdoitwell

11. Sunmi

In January 2010, Sunmi left her group, Wonder Girls, to focus on her studies. Two years later, she re-emerged on the musical scene, slayin' all our faves as a solo artist with an iconic pink bob.
