BIGBANG fans rejoice! TOP is returning to the big screen and this time at an international level. Reports are circulating that the South Korean rapper and boy band megastar - who goes by his real name Choi Seung Hyun for acting gigs – will star alongside Al Pacino in a Chinese international policing drama.
Hong Kong actress and cantopop singer Cecilia Cheung as well as Vampire Diaries actor Michael Trevino will also feature in the film in which TOP is set to take the leading male role. It is believed he will play an Interpol officer who will be immersed in “battling wit and courage” and “emotional redemption” according to K-Pop Amino.
The casting comes after his starring role in crime drama Tazza 2 – where he had fans swooning with a series of uncharacteristic but very welcome shirtless scenes – and before he embarks on his upcoming military service.
TOP will of course be following in the footsteps of a host of Asian pop icons who have managed to steal the show in major international productions.
Fan Bingbing absolutely killed it with her teleporting character Blink, in the latest X-Men installment, Days of Future Past. Despite commanding a relatively minor slice of screen time, she secured a spot on the film’s promotional posters and accompanied long-running star Hugh Jackman on a number of press tours.
Likewise Rain made his Hollywood debut in 2008’s Speed Racer before going on to star as a lead in Ninja Assassin while Bae Doo Na recently starred in Jupiter Ascending and Kim Soo Hyuan in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
