Like any musical band, K-pop groups go through a series of name changes before settling on the perfect one. From BTS to VIXX, here are 11 well-known K-pop groups who very nearly debuted under a completely different name:
BtoB stands for 'Born to Beat', but they had quite a few potential other names, including "Sonic," "Asian King", "Arirang" and "74."
Infinite were initially given a number of random and odd names, such as "Blackberry", "Icons", "The Big Dipper" and "Supersonic", but the group didn't like any of them. Luckily, the name "Infinite" came up right before the group's debut, and it's stuck ever since.
With original group names like "Meow", "Flower", and "Bomb", we're really glad that the girls decided on f(x)!
The name EXO is short, simple, and cool. The group's original name "Boy's Paradise" was cheesy and incredibly uncool.
Believe it or not, BIGBANG was very nearly named "Diamond". While that isn't the worst group name in the world, "Diamond" doesn't have the same zest as BIGBANG.
Given a choice between "Wah Wah Girls" and "MAMAMOO", we're really glad that the girls went with MAMAMOO!
BEAST almost debuted under a few different names, many of which were inspired by real-world history. The group initially mulled over names like "Genghis Khan", "300", "Gold, Silver, Bronze, Eagle", and "6-Con", before deciding that BEAST was the best choice. Of course, they're now known as HIGHLIGHT!
SISTAR very nearly debuted under the ridiculously-sounding name of "Diridiri Daradara Duruduru Bop". Thankfully, the group's management company realised that the name was too hard to pronounce (and to put on posters), and decided to change it to the much-shorter SISTAR.
VIXX's N revealed in an interview that the group almost debuted under the name "J-Dice" and "Bluefish". Neither one of those names were as good as VIXX, a sentiment shared by N, who said "I'm so glad we didn't debut as Bluefish".
2. Wonder Girls
Wonder Girls' original name was "LC (Ladies Club)", which made them sound like an elderly people's organisation rather than a K-pop group.
The boys from BTS revealed that they almost debuted as either "Young Nation" and "Big Kids", to which J-Hope replied "I think Bangtan Boys are better". No arguments from us about that, J-Hope!
