When Jessica Jung parted ways with Girls' Generation last year, many wondering what was next for the singer. Thankfully for her and her fans, Jessica rebounded very well in 2016, which saw the successful release of her first mini-album "With Love, J". But despite her new-found success as a solo artist, it wasn't an easy journey for Jessica.
In a new interview, the singer admitted that she went through a period where she thought she may never sing again, but thanks to the support of her fans, she pushed on with her solo career:
"I had no idea that I'd be a singer again. If it weren't for my fans' support, there wouldn't be a day like today. I regained my courage because of the fans who showed their support, asking me to keep singing. I think I began the work with mulling over what the fans wanted from me and what they wanted to hear. In the end, I decided that I had to do songs that the fans wanted to hear and prepared for my album."
In regards to her time in Girls' Generation, Jessica says that it was an important period that helped shape who she is today:
"I always liken life to a book where you turn the pages one at a time. When I left the group, I believed that the time had come for me to put a period. Now, I've gone on to the next page and have to write a new story. Girls' Generation was an important and precious time for me. If there were no Girls' Generation, I would not exist here like this right now."
And finally, the subject of her former group member Tiffany's solo debut came up, to which Jessica lightheartedly said "When I heard the news, I thought, 'Why? Of all people?'".
Joking aside, Jessica had nothing but nice words to say about Tiffany's solo debut:
"I thought that it might actually be a good thing. I was curious about what Tiffany would do, and she was really cool. I thought it'd be fun for people who are watching because her music and visuals are different from mine. Leaving behind the grades for our music, I wish that we would each promote coolly."
Despite her initial doubts about going solo, we're just glad to see Jessica doing well after all of last year's drama!
