Hikaru Utada took to the NHK SONGS stage to perform “Michi”, “Hanataba Wo Kimi Ni”, and new song “Tomodachi“ - all while giving a nod to the LGBTQI community!

J-pop sensation Hikaru Utada is currently on the comeback trail, and she recently hit the NHK SONGS stage to perform “Michi”, “Hanataba Wo Kimi Ni”, and a new song “Tomodachi“!

"Tomodachi" is a collaboration with Nariaki Obukoro and is a song of unrequited love between a two people, one of whom is gay.

Given the song's underlying LGBTQI theme, some fans couldn't help but point out that the song was performed by a straight woman, to which Hikaru had a surprising but insightfully revealing reply:

Hikaru is known for her support of the LGBTQI community, and her reply is quite heartwarming to see.
