If you haven’t started planning your Halloween costume yet, you’re running out of time. Thinking about a costume idea can be fun, but also stressful. Y'know, you think of fun costume ideas but then quickly reject them because they’re not interesting enough, right?
Cheerleaders. Vampires. Superheroes. Zombies. What to choose?
How many other people are going to be dressed up as the same thing? You want to look good AND scary without spending too much money or too much time on it. Here's some tips on what to do...
1. Just Add Blood.
Whether you want to give your not-so-original costume a twist or you're not feeling enthusiastic about your costume, no fear: When in doubt, just add blood.
You can dress up as a ballerina, a princess, a crazy doctor, whatever...if you throw some blood on it, you've instantly added a very sinister. and Halloween appropriate, twist.
This is also a great idea if you want to keep your idea simple. I mean, think of how creepy you'll look if you just show up to a Halloween party wearing a dress covered in blood.
Easy fake blood recipe: One jar of Glucose Syrup (found in supermarkets), sevene drops of red food colouring, one-and-a-half teaspoons of Nutella.
- It's edible
- Instantly has a horror feeling to it
- Is easy to prepare (see above)
- It gets on other things (messy)
- Is very sticky
- Limits your ability to hug
2. The Eyes Are The Window To The Soul…
Regardless of what costume you choose, from which ever era the character is from, there is one thing that will always make a costume stand out more than anything. The Eyes.
One of the simplest ways to increase how awesome your costume is, is to change the eyes. The eyes are one of the first things people will notice when they see you.
Be cautious when working with contacts and experimenting with products. Your eyes are very sensitive and you should not play around with them. Always do things safely!!
- They look amazing and catch attention straight away
- They aren’t for everyone
3. Everybody Loves A Zombie!
The best part about costuming is that it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Being a zombie for Halloween is one of the easiest things you can choose to dress up as.
Recycle old pieces of clothing that you never wear anymore, rub them in the dirt, tear holes into them, add some fake blood and various dark coloured paints. Before you know it you're a ZOMBIE!!
- Zombies are always trendy
- Everyone has old clothes they no longer want
- You may not be the only zombie at the party
4. Be Scary. In Style!
Pick a style/era and merge it into your chosen character. This is fun to do and adds a level of uniqueness to your costume.
If you're really into the clothes of a certain era, this is a good way to make your costume more fun to wear and naturally more comfortable. You can play around with hair, clothing, and makeup a lot more if you're dressing up as, say, a pin up alien or a rock’n’roll Frankenstein.
This also includes sexy versions of characters. Every style has a place in the world of costumes!!
You will most likely have a lot of the required clothing to complete your costume rather than needing to spend lots of money on things like belts, hats etc.
- It's unique
- Makes it look like large amounts of effort went into your outfit
- Has a connection to you, which in turn makes you more comfortable
- You may find the urge to destroy some of your current clothes for the sake of a costume
