Hello again internet,

A new year is just around the corner and I'm enjoying seeing my friends post about what they plan on cosplaying in 2017.

How I like to start the New Year is with a nice clean workspace. I find that it helps motivate me to sit down and use the space again. Sometimes after convention season is over, your cosplay corner is a bit of a bombsite (if you’re anything like me that is). Tidy it up, give yourself that creative space back and be ready to make full use of it again.

Need a place to put all that stuff you just tidied up? Get yourself some storage for all your cosplay bits and pieces. This is a really easy way to keep all your things together in one place.

I find the best way to store all my junk is in big plastic tubs. You can get them at cheap stores, hardware stores and a whole bunch of other places (in different sizes too). You can label them so they’re super organised. I tend to just use them as a way of keeping the rest of my room clean.

Now that you’ve cleaned up your space, it’s probably time to sit down and work out what projects you would like to complete next year.

A good way to do this is to get a rough idea about what kind of cosplays you want to build and then figure out which conventions you want to wear them to.

I try to pick my cosplays based on the season that the convention is on. For example, I don’t fancy wearing full leather and fur costumes during the hotter months, so I plan to have them done in time for the cons in winter.

This really helps to keep me on task and manage the workload better.

Remember, gather yourself a stash of reference photos and use this off-season time to suss out where you will source your fabrics and materials. Start ordering all the things you need from eBay ahead of time so that you’re not one of those poor folks that are waiting for their wig to arrive the day before the convention.

That’s it for now, folks!

Until next time, KTHNXBAI!
