Among the many great films to have come out of Japan in 2016, perhaps the most buzzworthy one is Makoto Shinkai's critically-acclaimed anime film "Your Name", so much so that it has just become the highest grossing Japanese film ever in China!

Granted a rare release permission from Chinese film regulators, "Your Name" premiered in China on December 2 and has since grossed approximately US$78 million at the box-office, overtaking "Stand By Me Doraemon" as the most successful Japanese film to be released in China.

Worldwide, "Your Name" is currently sitting at approximately US$280 million, US$178 million of which was earned in its native Japan, and the film is currently on track to surpass "Spirited Away" as the highest-grossing anime film of all-time.

We think a huge congrats is in order for "Your Name" and Makoto Shinkai! If you haven't seen the film yet, check out the trailer right here:
