To help you pick which conventions you should check out (that is, if you can’t go to ALL OF THEM) I’ve put together a quick list of conventions and what you can expect from them!
The cons that have a little bit of everything:
Supanova and OZ Comic Con (All major cities)
They’re the conventions that do the largest circuit around the country, visiting more states than any other convention.
They have big guests, lots of vendors, panels and signings. If you want a little bit of everything geeky, these are the ones to hit up.
For the anime fans:
Smash Convention (Sydney) and Madman Anime Festival (Melbourne)
Smash has been running for a few years, while Madman have just recently joined the Australian convention scene. They are both great for people with a love for anime, manga, Japanese culture and COSPLAY!
For the gamers:
PAX Australia (Melbourne) and EB Expo (Sydney)
If you want to check out the latest games coming out this year, then these are the conventions to go to. EB Expo has been growing each year and PAX seems to be an incredibly popular and well-loved event.
RTX - a different sort of convention - (Sydney)
It’s very much geared toward the Rooster Teeth community but that doesn’t mean it’s just for Rooster Teeth fans.
There are awesome panels to listen to about things like creating unique content for the online community, with a lean toward gaming geekery. It’s big, it’s new and it’s a lot of fun!
Since there are so many cons in Australia now, there’s bound to be one out there that’s right for you!
