The start of every year sees the movie industry knee-deep in an intensely fought awards season, all of which culminates in the biggest movie prize in the world - the Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the 2017 list of Oscar nominees just a few hours ago, but we're only interested in one category, the "Best Animated Feature Film".

Of the many animated films released last year, these were the final five that were ultimately nominated:

  • Kubo and the Two Strings
  • Moana”
  • My Life as a Zucchini
  • The Red Turtle
  • Zootopia”

As it is with the nominees every year, there were a number of big omissions that raised some eyebrows, such as "Finding Dory" and "The Secret Life of Pets". However, one notable 2016 animated film that did not make the nominees list was the critically-acclaimed Japanese film "Your Name", which was looked over by the Academy despite fantastic reviews and massive box-office numbers.

With the nominees list now revealed, the winners will be chosen during the 89th Academy Awards show on February 26, 2017

What are your thoughts on this year's "Best Animated Feature Film" Oscar nominees? Were there some great movies overlooked or is are the nominees all worthy of some Oscar love?
