After three decades of a successful TV and acting career in Japan, Makiko Esumi will be retiring from the entertainment industry.

Amid speculation over an alleged extra-martial affair, Esumi issued out an announcement stating that she wishes to focus on raising her two children and will be calling time on her show business career.

The statement also denied allegations of an extra-martial affair, saying that she's been married for over a decade and her rumoured partner was nothing more than a business associate. It was also confirmed that Esumi and her husband, director Shin Hirano, live apart, but this is due to "work and lifestyle preferences" and there are no plans for a divorce.

After such a long and successful career, we wish Makiko Esumi all the best for the future.
