After taking a little break, Oh My Girl finally returned this week with their fifth mini-album, Coloring Book. The title track was definitely worth the wait, delivering a frenetic new sound from the group while also staying true to their cute and quirky style. To see how “Coloring Book” stacks up to the rest of Oh My Girl’s amazing discography, we’ve ranked every Oh My Girl single to date, from good to great...
6. Listen To My Word (A-ing)
“A-ing” currently stands as Oh My Girl’s best-selling single. While it’s not their strongest song, the reggae-tinged summer jam is cute and catchy!
5. Liar Liar
After the moody “Closer,” Oh My Girl returned to their peppy debut sound with the addictive “Liar Liar.” Crafted by British producer David Anthony, “Liar Liar” put a sugary spin on an urban-pop sound to create what is easily the group’s catchiest hit.
Most Oh My Girl fans probably consider “Closer” to be the group’s crowning glory. While it’s not personally my absolute fave, there’s no denying that the dreamy, trance-pop production is absolutely beautiful and something that’s rarely heard from girl groups. Had it been released today instead of back when Oh My Girl were brand new rookies, it would’ve become a huge hit.
3. Coloring Book
Oh My Girl’s latest single is also one of their best! The relentlessly energetic track explodes right out the gate and doesn’t let up, throwing out brassy horns and shouty vocals at exhausting speed. The song and music video might remind some fans of the amazing Red Velvet, but Oh My Girl put their own unique twist on “Coloring Book” to make it their own.
2. Windy Day
Oh My Girl had already shown a knack for pushing the boundaries of pop music, but they took things to a whole new level with last year’s glorious “Windy Day.” Produced by Sweden’s Maria Marcus and Andreas Öberg, the track starts off like your typical lovely, innocent girl group single, before unexpectedly plunging into a Middle Eastern instrumental on the chorus. It’s totally brilliant and makes “Windy Day” one of the most unique K-pop singles in years.
Out of all the amazing singles Oh My Girl have released over the past two years, for me there’s none better than their first. It's like Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” gone K-Pop, “Cupid” features off-kilter military drums and a cheerleader chant of a chorus that just never gets old. It’s both dreamy and jarring, and was the perfect introduction to the quirky world of Oh My Girl.
