As predicted, IU has soared to the top of the Gaon Digital Chart this week with her latest single “Through The Night.” The gorgeous ballad gives the K-Pop princess her eleventh No. 1 single as a lead artist, and her fourteenth overall, when including featured appearances. At the age of 23, IU holds the record for the artist with the most No. 1 singles and the most weeks at No. 1 on the Gaon chart, which was launched in early 2010.
Boy band HIGHLIGHT slip one spot to No. 2 after topping the chart last week with their incredible comeback track “Plz Don’t Be Sad.” The song is showing some serious longevity when it comes to sales, and will most likely finish its run as one of HIGHLIGHT’s best-selling hits ever.
Speaking of comebacks, Girl’s Day have returned with a vengeance as their new single “I’ll Be Yours” arrives at an impressive No. 3. For a group that’s been away from the music scene for almost two years, this is a huge achievement that has exceeded many people’s expectations. The song is still selling well digitally and is receiving great feedback from fans and the public, so expect it to hang around at the top of the charts for a while.
G-Friend show some longevity with their latest tune “Fingertip,” which remains at No. 12, while Red Velvet’s SM Station single “Would U” enters at No. 14.
One rookie group that are really impressing this week is PRISTIN. Their debut single, “Wee Woo,” has actually risen three spots to reach a new peak of No. 49, while their mini-album, Hi! Pristin, has sold upwards of 23,000 copies - which is higher than what many established girl groups sell!
Last, but definitely not least, is GOT7 who score their sixth No. 1 album with Flight Log: Arrival. With sales of 278,000 copies (and counting), the EP is the band’s highest-selling album ever and one of the year’s top-sellers overall. It looks like GOT7 have well and truly made it!
