New Ghost in the Shell

The team behind Ghost in the Shell (1995) and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004); Production I.G. announced a new anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s manga is in the works. Appleseed Director Shinji Aramaki and Kanji Kamiyama of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex fame, will co-direct the project.

The animation studio has yet to announce a release date or episode format for the upcoming series. However fans are speculating that it will be a continuation of Stand Alone Complex.

Production I.G.’s Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Alternative Architecture, is the latest anime series in the franchise’s universe and a prequel to the original. You can watch it on Animelab.

New Fullmetal Alchemist live action Trailer

Warner Bros. Japan has uploaded a new trailer for their live action Fullmetal Alchemist film. The short Trailer shows the young Elric brothers attempting to bring their mother back to life, and as young adults in action.

The director of the live action Ping Pong film, Fumihiko Sori will direct this live action adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s Fullmetal Alchemist manga. He aims to be as faithful to the source material as possible.

“I have been wishing to create this wonderful story to life with my own hands,” Sori told Oricon magazine. “It’s not an exaggeration if I say that I live for this work. We will reproduce a world that is as close as the original manga.”

Sori’s casting of Hey! Say! Jump member Ryosuke Yamada as Edward Elric; Night’s Tightrope star, Tsubasa Honda as the automail mechanic Winry Rockbell; and actor and singer Dean Fujioka (of Yuri on Ice’s opening theme, “History Maker”) as series fan favourite, Colonel Roy Mustang, is promising.

A Western release has yet to be announced but the film will begin screening in Japanese cinemas on December 1. If you haven’t watched the series before, you can watch it on Animelab.

Black Lagoon returns

The Black Lagoon manga will resume on May 19, according to Monthly Sunday GX Magazine. Rei Hiroe’s gritty action series will return in the June issue after a three-year-long hiatus.

The news was first revealed by the publication in December with a preview image of the upcoming issue shown in a tweet on Friday.

Hiroe recently designed the original concept and characters for this season’s Re:Creators; a show exclusively streamed in the West by Amazon Prime’s Anime Strike service, and is currently unavailable to stream in Australia.
