Uh, the lead couple are dating IRL!

News broke last week that the couple from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo were dating IRL!

Models-turned-actors Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk confirmed their relationship and everyone squealed with excitement! Having been long-time friends, feelings apparently developed when they were filming Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo - it’s pretty obvious now, in retrospect. Whether you’ve seen it already, or don’t even know what on earth a weightlifting fairy is, there’s no time like now to be watching (or re-watching!) this drama.

Real-life romances aside, there are so many things that make this drama a must-see. Heck, I could probably go on and on, and pull out things from each individual episode, but alas I must limit myself to five. So here they are:

1. Bok Joo’s first experience with love

Ah, the sting of young love. This drama’s depiction of Bok Joo’s first romantic encounters involve so many comical moments that perfectly capture the innocent naivety of first love. While not all of us are going to fall for a handsome doctor, and then pay money for weight-loss sessions just to be able to see him, there’s still so much of Bok Joo’s starry-eyed love experience that we can relate to; you can't get your crush out of your mind, always wanting to impress them, the constant pining, and of course all the crazy fantasies you dream up in your mind. While things didn’t work out between Bok Joo and the Doc, we certainly learnt something from this experience: You shouldn’t need to change yourself to be loved because when the right person comes, they’re going to love you for being you (*swoon*).

2. You can be a hella strong weightlifter and have a love life

This show smashes 'ladylike' stereotypes by focussing on weightlifters. It showcases the struggle some of the female weightlifters experience between romance and the sport they love. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo touches on vulnerabilities, like how the women wouldn’t want their partners to see them competing because they think they look unattractive, and how they feel burdened because of the belief that guys wouldn’t be into girls that are stronger than them. The show tells us that if your partner can’t love you for who you are, maybe they ain’t worth your time. #amen

3. The chemistry between the leads (of course!)

We can't not mention the heart-melting puppy love that grows between Bok Joo and Joon Hyung! Even without knowing we were watching a real life couple, the adorable romance that blossomed between them was so beautiful to watch on screen; so many intensely loving gazes, cheesy couple moments and hilarious play fights. Just look at them on this adorable amusement park semi-date:

4. So. Many. Good. Lines.

An absolute goldmine of sayings-to-live-by:

5. The whole cast is just wonderful

What makes this drama so great is all the unique characters. The youthful energy and hilarity of Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo will have you trying to silently cackle while you lie in bed watching the show at one am. That wouldn't be possible without the cast’s chemistry. Everyone from Bok Joo’s swag squad to the mean girls in gymnastics added something important to the show.
