After ruling the singles chart for the last few weeks, IU is now sitting pretty at the top of the albums chart. Her latest release, Palette, debuts at No. 1 to become the third chart-topping album of her career. She first hit No. 1 with 2011’s Last Fantasy, followed by Modern Times two years later. Her last album, 2015’s Chat-Shire, just missed out after peaking at No. 2.
Over on the Gaon Digital Chart, IU spends another week at the top with her G-Dragon collaboration, “Palette.” Meanwhile, her ballad “Ending Scene” is No. 3, while “Dlwlrma,” which she’s been performing on music programs, is at No. 5.
Meanwhile, indie band Hyukoh make a big splash as their latest single “Tomboy” arrives at No. 2. Their new album, 23, debuts at No. 5, becoming their highest-charting album to date.
Solo songstress Suran debuts at No. 4 with her new single, “Wine.” The song is unique because it was produced by BTS’ Suga, which could explain why it’s been at the top of Melon’s real-time chart since it was released. In fact, it’s been doing so well that it could even hit No. 1 on the Gaon chart next week.
YG Entertainment’s veteran boy band Sechskies make a big return this week with their greatest hits compilation, The 20th Anniversary. The album debuts at No. 3, while the lead single “Be Well” debuts at No. 8.
Also making a splash is SHINee’s Jonghyun with his latest self-penned solo compilation, Story Op.2. The album narrowly misses the top spot at No. 2, while lead single “Lonely” featuring Taeyeon is at No. 18.
And last but not least, we have a few commendable sales milestones this week. BTS’ “Blood Sweat & Tears” crosses 1 million downloads, making it the band’s first million-selling single. Meanwhile, Red Velvet’s “Rookie” hits 800,000 downloads, Block B’s “Yesterday” hits 700,000, and HIGHLIGHT’s “Plz Don’t Be Sad” hits 500,000.
