A Taiwanese rock band is leading this year's nominations!

Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards - equivalent to the Grammy Awards - announced their nomination list during a press conference on Tuesday. Taiwanese rock band Mayday's album "History of Tomorrow" leads this year's nominations. 

Mayday was also nominated for Best Album of the Year, Best Song of the Year, Best Band, Best Composer, Best Lyricist, Best Album Production, and Best Music Video.

"History of Tomorrow" is Mayday's 9th studio album, and their first in five years. Their last album "Second Round" took six major awards at the 2012 Golden Melody Awards, making it the biggest winner that year. They have also claimed the Best Band Title at the Golden Melody Awards in 2001, 2004, 2009 and 2012.

Kay Huang, who represents the Awards jury, said at the press conference, "Mayday continue to bring us suprises, and have stayed true to themselves in their music."

Best Mandarin Female Singer:

Eve Ai, Waa Wei, Jia Jia, Ellen Loo, Faith Yang, and Miss Ko.

Best Mandarin Male Singer:

Jay Chou, Khalil Fong, Guo Ding, Namewee, Crowd Lu, Yoga Lin and Dwagie.

Best Band Award:

Mayday, No Party for Cao Dong, FLUX, GDJYB, Lion, Gina's Can

Best Music Video:

Chai from Chang and Lee album "Chang and Lee"

Bedtime story from album "Jay Chou’s bedtime story"

Mercury Records from album "The Silent Star Stone"

The Lifetime Contribution Award will go to 81-year-old Taiwanese singer Chi Lu-hsia and the late singer-songwriter Chang Yu-sheng.

This year, 606 albums and 15, 934 works were submitted for award consideration, and 175 nominated works will compete in 27 categories. The awards ceremony will be held at the Taipei Arena on June 24 and broadcast live.

Leehom Wang celebrates birthday with family and friends

Asian pop star Leehom Wang celebrated his 41st birthday with families and Friends on May 17. He shared photos celebrating his birthday, with many celebrities like Huang Xiaoming, Li Yifeng, actress Zhang Ziyi and Wang Feng.

Leehom is a Berklee alumnus, and will present a full scholarship in his name to a Berklee College of Music, or Boston Conservatory, student entering in the autumn of 2018. The award is designed for a talented and deserving musician from mainland China with a demonstrated potential to make a significant contribution to society through music.
