Every Monday, YouTubers Joey the Anime Man and Aki Dearest join forces to bring you The Anime Show, an hour that covers what’s hot, what’s not, what’s new and what you should be watching in the world of anime!
In the latest episode, Joey and Aki have a very special guest (and their first ever) joining them this week - fellow YouTuber Gigguk!
With three big anime YouTubers in one spot, various topics were thrown about before the trio settled on taking a trip down memory lane and chatting about anime nostalgia. Given that Joey, Aki, and Gigguk have watched more anime than anyone can imagine, the trio decide to have a chat about the first ever anime show they ever watched.
Joey's first ever anime show was the long-running classic Doraemon, which was a massive phenomenon in Japan but perhaps less well-known to Western audiences. Thankfully for Joey, his grandma in Japan managed to record a heap of Doraemon (and other anime shows) onto VCR before sending them over to him, so he was exposed to a lot of anime at a young age.
Describing himself as a "filthy casual," Gigguk's first anime show was none other than Pokemon and he fondly remembers the stacks of VCR tapes of Pokemon lying around his house. This was then followed by other popular anime shows like Naruto, which actually set him on the part to becoming an anime YouTuber. Having said that though, Gigguk also remembers being recommended Neon Genesis Evangelion after watching Naruto, and the whiplash going from one to the other was something he will never forget (in a good way).
For Aki, she started off with Pokemon like many others but this lead her to Monster Rancher, which made her cry for the first time and really opened her eyes to anime. Beyond anime shows, Aki also fondly remembers watching the various Studio Ghibli classics with her friends, as well as staying up late to watch Inuyasha on Adult Swim.
