Yoshishiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga is returning from a year long hiatus. The weekly series will continue in Shonen Jump magazine on June 26, following the release of its 34th volume.
Since 2006, Hunter x Hunter hasn't had the most consistent release schedule. The series has gone through fifteen periods of hiatus, currently on hiatus since the middle of last year. The longest hiatus the series has had was 80 issues of Shonen Jump, and according to the fansite Hiatus-Hiatus, the series has been on hiatus more times than it has released a chapter. The manga returns nearly a year after the release of volume 33 in Japan.
Series creator Togashi is a huge fan of the Japanese game franchise, Dragon Quest, and appears to go on a break whenever a game in the series is out. With Dragon Quest XI releasing later this year, we can only hope we get at least another ten consecutive chapters before a return to Hiatus x Hiatus.
Hunter x Hunter is a cult-classic shonen series by Yoshishiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho, Level E) and easily one of the best in the genre. The show follows Gon, a young boy training to become an adventurer (called a “hunter”) to help find his mysterious father and adventurer. What follows is a fast-paced intelligent story with high stakes intense action, original characters and locations, and endearing character development.
The series debuted in Shonen Jump magazine in 1998 and was adapted into an anime series in the 90s and 2011. The more recent anime adaption Hunter x Hunter 2011 is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
