Some K-pop groups have survived the dreaded 7-year-jinx, but unfortunately, many notable ones didn't...

Due to the 7-year duration of most K-pop contracts, there's a longstanding myth in K-pop that most idol groups struggle to stay together or go through problems when they enter their 7th year together. While there are notable exceptions who have managed to survive well past the jinx, there are a number of big-name K-pop groups who weren't so lucky...

7. Girls' Generation

Girls' Generation were on top of the world in their 7th year, but that was when the dreaded "jinx" struck and SM Entertainment announced that Jessica Jung would be leaving the group at the end of 2014.

6. Wonder Girls

Wonder Girls have endured a number of trials and tribulations throughout their 7 years, with stylistic and member line-up changes. Sadly though, the girls couldn't get past the 7 year jinx and the group decided to disband at the start of 2017, though not before releasing one final goodbye song "Draw Me."

5. 4Minute

4Minute quickly rose to prominence thanks to their badass image and thumping songs, but when talks about renewing contracts came up in 2016, all the girls decided to go their separate ways.

While TVXQ are technically still together, the group's 7th year was filled with drama due to conflict between SM Entertainment and the trio that soon became JYJ (Junsu, Jaejoong, and Yoochun).

SISTAR are the latest group to fall victim to the 7th year curse, with their final comeback penciled in for May 31. One thing is for sure, Summer is going to be a bit chillier without them...

One of K-pop' leading boy groups since their formation in 2009, things started going downhill for BEAST when Hyunseung left the group in 2016. This soon lead to the decision to not re-sign with Cube Entertainment, thus abandoning the "BEAST" name and starting anew as HIGHLIGHT.

1. 2NE1

Arguably one of the biggest K-pop girl groups ever, there were signs of trouble in 2NE1's 7th year when Minzy announced her departure. But just as it looked like the group would survive 2016 as a trio, YG announced that 2NE1 would disband instead.
