In a recent episode of Toei Animation’s Dragon Ball Super, the Dragon Ball series finally introduced a female super Saiyan.

**Spoiler warning for the latest episodes of Dragon Ball Super.**

Caulifla is described as a teen punk from Universe 6 with unmatched “battle sense.” She is voiced by Yuka Komatsu (Yuri on Ice, Naruto Shippuden, Persona 3 the Movie: 1, 2 & 3).

Caulifla is the first official female Saiyan in the over 30-year-long series, alongside Kale, a weak and timid young girl with untapped potential. Fans suspect Kale is the female version of Broly, the fan favourite berserk Saiyan in the series’ film universe: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly - Second Coming, and Bio Broly.

Caulifla and Kale first debuted in episode 89 of Dragon Ball Super, during the Universe Survival saga. The king of all worlds, Zen-Oh, decides to pit universes against one another in a life or death tournament. To prepare, Goku has gathered earth’s ten greatest warriors to compete and if they lose, their world is destroyed.

Dragon Ball Super is an official sequel to Dragon Ball Z. Written by series creator Akira Toriyama, it maintains the explosive, over the top action of the cult-classic shonen with crisper animation. It first debuted in 2015 and was the first Dragon Ball television series in 18 years, since the end of Dragon Ball GT in 1997. You can watch it on Animelab.
