The Final Fantasy fighting game spin-off series, Final Fantasy Dissidia, is coming to PlayStation 4 next year.

According to Square Enix, the game is titled Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and will be optimising the mechanics in the Dissidia Japanese arcade machines for the PlayStation 4. It is being co-developed with Team Ninja (Nioh, Dead or Alive, Hyrule Warriors)

“Offering strategic online and offline play, players can select from over 20 legendary characters and familiar summons, including Ifrit, Shiva and Odin, to bring into 3 v 3 battle,” said a spokesperson for Square Enix in a press release announcing the game.

A demo of the game will be available at the Electronic Entertainment Expo at Los Angeles Convention Center on June 13-15. We’ll be attending E3, so expect an interview and hands-on impressions of the game.

Final Fantasy is a Japanese role playing game franchise. The original was first released in 1987 as a final project for the team, before becoming an incredibly successful series with 15 mainline games and over 26 spin-off series. The latest in the franchise, Final Fantasy XV, was released last year alongside a feature film and anime series, after a ten year long development cycle.

The Dissidia series brings characters from across the series together in large-scale fights in 3D environments. It first debuted on the PSP in 2008.
