Your weekly round-up of the biggest hits on South Korea’s official music chart, the Gaon chart.
BolBBalgan4 were one of last year’s biggest new acts, and it looks like their success is continuing into 2017. The indie duo’s collaboration with 20 Years of Age, “We Loved,” debuts at No. 1, dethroning G-Dragon’s “Untitled, 2014” which slips to No. 2.
The rest of the top ten remains relatively unchanged with the exception of one new track. Block B’s Taeil’s collaboration with Gugudan’s Sejeong, “I Like You, I Don’t,” arrives at No. 8.
Famed vocalist Hwang Chi-yeul’s “A Daily Song” debuts at No. 14, while his new album, Be Ordinary, tops the albums chart.
A few more Produce 101 tracks enter the charts this week, with “Always” at No. 29 and “Hands On Me” at No. 34. The songs from the show have been hugely successful, with nine Produce 101 tracks currently sitting in the top 100.
The charts are a little slow for big idol groups this week, but one new entry that’s worth noting is NCT 127’s “Cherry Bomb.” The single debuts at No. 47 to become the highest-charting single of NCT’s career. On top of that, it won first place on M! Countdown this week, proving that the group’s popularity is definitely on the rise.
Another notable entry is NU’EST’s four-year-old hit “Hello,” which re-enters the Gaon chart at No. 68. The ballad previously peaked at No. 51 back in 2013. It’s currently selling well on Melon, so you can expect it to go even higher next year.
Further down, T-ara’s comeback track “What’s My Name” debuts at No. 79. It’s two spots higher than last year’s “Tiamo,” which peaked at No. 81. The song recently placed first on SBS MTV’s The Show, giving T-ara their first win in over five years.
Over on the albums chart, NCT 127’s Cherry Bomb debuts at No. 2, while T-ara’s What’s My Name enters at No. 4. A couple of spots lower, PENTAGON’s Ceremony arrives at No. 6, followed by a special ‘Jiyeon’ edition of T-ara’s What’s My Name at No. 7.
Next week, look for new entries from Nine Muses, Monsta X, MAMAMOO, and BLACKPINK.
