Rockers BUMP OF CHICKEN shared a new song recently, complete with a visually captivating music video, which you can watch below:
“Kinen Satsuei” is a mid-tempo rock number coated in an array of electronic flourishes, adding a dreamy edge to the music; which is to say, BUMP OF CHICKEN are very much in their element for this song.
They’ve always excelled at locating the longing and hopefulness in rock, and “Kinen Satsuei” is one of their more cinematic offerings of late, slowly building up but never blowing apart, in favour of a sweet realisation over a huge release. Better still are the little details, such as the echoed vocals off in the distant and the skittery hi-hat grazing the surface of the song. It makes for an absorbing listen revealing new details each go through.
The video, featuring the song’s lyrics, is full of squares, and will make fans of geometry especially pleased. For those wishing for a more fanciful visual to accompany “Kinen Satsuei,” the song is currently being used as part of an advertising for Nissin Cup Noodles, in one of the more noteworthy commercials to come out of Japan this year.
The series reimagines the famous anime character Kiki (of Kiki’s Delivery Service) in modern times, complete with an updated animation style. Song works well with the clip, which you can see below.
Fans of BUMP OF CHICKEN can catch them on a nationwide tour of Japan starting this September, and it stretches into 2018, so you have time to plan.
