Little is currently known about the series, including its release date or characters, and Ubisoft told IGN they would share more information at a later date.
“I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream,” Shankar said on his Facebook page.
“At that moment, I knew absolutely no one in the industry, and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story as an anime series.”
Ubisoft announced it was working on a TV series in the Assassin’s Creed universe back in March, although it isn’t clear if this is the same project. The series joins their other multimedia projects, including a movie set inThe Division, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and a Splinter Cell film involving Tom Hardy.
Assassin’s Creed is a popular open world video game franchise by Ubisoft about a group of assassins throughout history. In each game, you explore a different time period and setting, as a different character, including Italy during the Renaissance era, the Crusades and in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins, ancient Egypt.
A film adaptation was released in theatres late last year to many negative reviews.
