Every Monday, YouTubers Joey the Anime Man and Aki Dearest join forces to bring you The Anime Show, an hour that covers what’s hot, what’s not, what’s new and what you should be watching in the world of anime!
In the latest episode, Joey and Aki decide to tackle a different anime-related topic this week. Rather than look at what they like about the medium, the duo decided to go in the other direction and talk about things they DON'T like about anime.
Aki kicks things off by naming all those anime shows that were made purely to appeal to certain demographics, such as waifu and moe fans. For Joey, it's the overabundance of "running" scenes during the opening and closing credits of many anime shows. While it makes sense for an adventure series like One Piece, Joey is absolutely baffled why many slice-of-life and high-school based anime now suddenly have "running" scenes during the credits, simply because it makes no sense!
This talk about anime "running" opening sequences quickly led to another thing that grinds Joey and Aki's gears - poor live-action anime adaptations. Specifically, live-action anime adaptations of fantasy and very "cartoony" shows. The problem with adaptations of more fantastical shows, like the upcoming One Piece TV show, is that the characters and setting don't translate well to a live-setting because it will look absolutely ridiculous. Having said that, live-action adaptations of drama anime shows are generally great, such as Rurouni Kenshin.
