As he approaches the one-year anniversary of his viral hit "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen" (PPAP), the good news keeps on coming for Piko Taro. The man behind the annoyingly catchy tune, comedian Kazuhito Kosaka - known under the entertainer name Daimao Kosaka - married model Hitomi Yasueda last week, according to a press release put out by the performer.
The two have been seeing each other since 2013, so this started well before the whole PPAP thing broke. At that point, Kosaka was best known as a comedian popping up on a few TV shows and commercials, while Yasueda was an emerging gravure model. The two met through work assignments, and have been together since. They were legally married last week.
This moment also allowed the folks handling Piko Taro’s PR to expand a bit on the character via press release. In the same message announcing Kosaka and Yasueda’s marriage, Piko Taro took the opportunity to introduce his wife...which, as you might imagine, is just Yasueda dressed up as an older lady. Still, made for a nice photo!
So what else is Piko Taro up to? His anime series is currently airing, he has a string of live dates coming up including Avex’s A-Nation event, and he continues to shine on social media. And of course, he’s still making goofball songs and uploading them to YouTube. His latest, “Lullaby Lullaby,” serves as the ending theme to his cartoon, and manages to both be unsettling and a rave up. Check it out below.
