Jon and Eric Hoeber will now write the script for Hollywood’s live-action Naruto film.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Red and Red 2 Directors Jon and Eric Hoeber will be re-writing the script for the film, suggesting Lionsgate's live-action project is progressing further towards an official production. The film will be directed by former VFX artist Michael Gracey (The Greatest Snowman) and produced by Avi Arad's (Iron Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, Ghost in the Shell) Arad Productions studio.

Lionsgate (The Hunger Games, Power Rangers) first announced their live-action adaptation in 2015. The film follows Hollywood adaptations of Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell and Tsugumi Ohba's Death Note (later this month on Netflix) and recently, plans to adapt Cowboy Bebop and One Piece.

Naruto is a popular Shounen manga series by Masashi Kishimoto, following a troubled young ninja with a demon fox spirit trapped inside him. The series was previously published in Shonen Jump Magazine and ended last year. A spin-off following his son, Boruto, is currently featured in the magazine with a TV anime series broadcasting this season and available to stream on AnimeLab.
