Because, as crazy as it sounds, some people don’t fall in love with K-dramas straight away.

Showing the wonders of K-dramas to loved ones is both a duty and a joy; they need to see the sweet romances, couple goals, deception and intense plot twists, and beautiful scenery. And no, beautiful scenery does not just mean all the wonderful shower scenes/shirtless workout scenes that dramas include.

Of course, getting them addicted to dramas is not an easy task; there's the usual type of resistance. I don’t even speak Korean, they might protest. American and British shows are all I’ll ever need, they might say...

It may be hard, but it’s not impossible to get even the toughest cookie into K-dramas.

Here’s 4 tips on how to get them hooked:

1. Show them dramas that have things you know they like

It's all about strategy. By choosing something they already like, the battle is half won. All you need is a foot in the door to get them slowly interested. If they like intense crime mysteries with a time-travel twist, something like Signal might be right up their alley.

If they have medical aspirations, show them Doctors.

There’s even something for all the sport lovers. Into weightlifting? Make them watch Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. More of a MMA kind of person? Fight For My Way is there.

And heck, if you don’t know what specifically to show them just stick to your K-drama big hits, like Goblin.

2. Lure them in with clips of iconic scenes

I’m talking about all those scenes that made our heart stop, the scenes that triggered tonnes of imitations and parodies, the scenes that made us fall in love with the male leads. They’re a showcase of all that is good about dramas; the funny banter, emotional crying and moving romance. These little clips provide our soon-to-be-drama-addicts a taste of the sweet moments that await them when they pursue the K-drama life.

A great way to ensure they actually watch the clip is by watching it yourself and laughing, or loudly sighing, to attract their attention. Pretend you totally didn't plan this and tell them you’re ‘just watching this really funny/sweet clip.'

3. Invite them over to watch ‘movies’ but show them K-dramas instead

Essentially an extension of making them watch a K-drama clip, except they get the full K-drama experience this time. One or two episodes of a K-drama is basically the same thing as a movie anyway, right? It’s super important that the first episode(s) you show them are well-paced, have enough action and excitement without being too confusing, AND have the ability to suck you in so that you’re addicted to the point of no return.

Easy, right?

4. Show them all the hot K-drama male leads/second leads

There’s nothing better to get you interested in something than some very attractive people. If nothing else seems to be working on your friend, this may be your only hope. K-dramas have a plethora of hot leads (and second leads, to torment our hearts). It shouldn’t be too hard to get your friend to make the logical leap from ‘wow they're hot’ to ‘wow where can I watch the stuff that they're in’.
