CLC's latest comeback has been doing particularly bad. Their new single, "Where Are You?," not only failed to chart everywhere, it also got the lowest number of YouTube views for any CLC MV to date.
To combat this, Cube Entertainment appear to have made the decision to stop promoting "Where Are You?" after just one week, shifting their attention to CLC's Free'sm album b-side "Summer Kiss" instead.
It's not hard to see why Cube have done this. While "Where Are You?" is an amazing song, the genre is an uncommercial style of Japanese music called city-pop that had never even been done before in Korea until CLC tried it. On the other hand, the bright and bubbly "Summer Kiss" is reminiscent of popular girl groups like Apink, making it far more familiar to K-pop fans than the unique sounds of Japan.
So far, the switch seems to be working. CLC topped Melon's real-time search ranking after performing "Summer Kiss" on M! Countdown last week, while a video of the performance reached No. 35 on Naver TV's TOP 100. Even their fan-chants on music programs have gotten louder!
While it's a shame that the underrated "Where Are You?" wasn't able to receive a warmer reception, it's nice to see that CLC have been able to salvage this era with "Summer Kiss."
