KBS' upcoming survival show, Idol Rebooting Project: The Unit, has just secured a big name in Park Subin.
The 23-year-old is best known for being the maknae of Dal Shabet, but she also has a solo career spanning music, hosting, variety shows, pictorials, and CFs.
Dal Shabet were one of K-pop's most popular rookie groups when they debuted in 2011, and were even voted Best New Female Group of 2011 in Korea's official Gallup poll. They managed to chart eight top twenty singles on the Gaon Digital chart throughout their career, but have fallen into irrelevancy in recent years following member changes and increasing competition in the marketplace.
Subin's casting comes after former T-ara member Areum was announced as The Unit's first female participant last week. Areum joined T-ara in 2012 at the peak of the group's popularity, just before their infamous scandal, but left after less than two years due to health reasons.
Other idols confirmed for The Unit include all five members of Boys' Republic, and a handful of members from Brave Brothers' groups BIGSTAR and Brave Girls.
Naver reports that LABOUM are also in talks to join, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
The aim of The Unit is to create a new boy band and girl group out of idols that have already debuted, but have failed to find mainstream success. The two groups will only promote for seven months each, which is considerably shorter than the promotional contracts from rival survival show Produce 101.
Idol Rebooting Project: The Unit is scheduled to air in October.
