Japan is known for being one of the most peaceful countries in the world, but why is that the case? Well, that's something that Eat Your Kimchi try to figure out this week!
Compared to other countries, such as America and Brazil (where petty theft happens all the time), Japan is super-safe by comparison with little to no crime whatsoever. Sometimes almost ridiculously so.
The couple recalls a time when they had curry delivered by a waiter, and the waiter later showed up back in front of their house two days later because he had shortchanged them by $1. Not only did he drive all the way back to their house just to return them $1, the waiter was incredibly apologetic and kept bowing to them the entire time!
So why are Japanese people so honourable and just so pleasant?
Given how Japan does have many people from different countries living there, Simon and Martina postulate that this respectful attitude stems from a good upbringing that each Japanese person has from a young age. Japanese children are taught a very important lesson at a very young age that ultimately results in why Japan is so pleasant - don't be a jerk!
