Every Monday, YouTubers Joey the Anime Man and Aki Dearest join forces to bring you The Anime Show, an hour that covers what’s hot, what’s not, what’s new and what you should be watching in the world of anime!

In the latest episode, Joey and Aki decide to tackle a difficult yet super interesting subject that differs from person to person depending on who you ask - what is the top 100 greatest anime ever?

Inspired (and slightly triggered) by a recent list from NHK in which Japanese fans voted on what they think is the top 100 anime of all time, Joey decided to make his own poll for fans around the world. After a whopping 634,000 votes, the results are in and there were a number of very interesting placings.

Influential anime series such as Berserk (the 1997 one, not the terrible 2016 one) and Yu Yu Hakusho came in at surprisingly low placings of 95 and 90 respectively. The upsets continue up the list, with legendary anime shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop coming in at 26 and 16 respectively, which are quite low placings given their stature as some of anime's all-time-great shows.

Joey was surprised that the legendary anime film Akira was ranked at a lowly 78, simply because it is one of the greatest anime films ever. A number of Studio Ghibli movies made it into the list, with Howl's Moving Castle being the lowest ranked film at 56.

The results also threw up a number of surprises, like the super high placings of A Silent Voice and Your Name, which came in at 11 and 3 respectively, simply because those two films were released only in the past year.

As for what were the top five greatest anime of all time were as voted by fans? Well, listen to the podcast below to find out! Teaser: Your Name made it in there!
