Survival shows The Unit and Mix Nine finally premiered over the weekend, and K-pop fans can't stop talking about them!
A thread on Reddit this week asked viewers to discuss which of the two shows they preferred, and the reception has been very interesting.
"The Unit simply because I like the concept, it's nice to see some old faces and hope for them to get a second chance," wrote one user.
Another wrote: "Personally I prefer Mix Nine. I think it's mostly because I like the concept of YG and CL travelling around the country visiting music companies, and you get to see the differences between the different companies and trainees."
Despite The Unit receiving a lot of love from fans, many have criticised it for putting too much attention on new idols and rookie actors instead of the older 'failed idols' who are on the show for a second chance at stardom.
The Korea Herald pointed this out, writing in their review: "Viewers remained puzzled about the “rebooting established singers” theme, as episodes on Saturday featured singers with nearly nonexistent careers, K-pop trainees and actors.
"Some of the newer participants enjoyed extensive time in the spotlight, but others, like members of Dal Shabet and Laboum -- who many say perfectly fit the show’s theme -- were condensed into mere seconds of short cross-edited clips."
Allkpop has reported similar comments from Korean netizens who are asking why artists like SPICA and Boyfriend aren't receiving enough screen time compared to many of the unknown contestants.
Still, despite some criticism, both shows overall seem to have received some great feedback and viewers are excited to see how the rest of the episodes will unfold.
