An interesting discussion has started on Korean forum Pann about IU and Lee Joon-gi's historical romance drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, which received a lot of negative press when it first aired in 2016.

One Pann user started a new topic about the drama on the forum, writing: "The people who watched it would know but it was such a heart breaking and sad drama. I cried every time I watched it… it’s my lifetime drama."

The post quickly received 1,723 up-votes, with other users commenting to express their support for the drama too.

"I wasn’t anticipating Moon Lovers at all since the time travel concept also looked cliche," wrote one. "But the characters were well made and even though it was predictable, I didn’t get bored by it and the emotions were well kept throughout the drama."

Another wrote: "Seriously, it was so heart breaking and I liked all the actors. Especially IU, I saw her in a new light."

"Even though the viewer's rating was low, it was talked about a lot," added another.

Despite receiving average viewer ratings in Korea for a drama of its size and budget, Moon Lovers managed to become a big success overseas. It was sold all across Asia, including China, where each episode reportedly sold for US$400,000 according to Drama Fever

Do you think Moon Lovers is an underrated drama? Let us know!
