Following an announcement from Mnet that illegal voting took place for the upcoming 2017 Mnet Asian Music Awards, a clean-up of the votes was performed. The results of this clean-up is complete and the new official standings (at the time of writing) certainly makes for interesting viewing!
Millions of fake votes were removed from the system, with nominees in several categories swapping places, and in some cases, losing the No.1 spot.
Arguably the most notable major place changes took place in the "Best Boy Group," "Best Music Video," "Song of the Year," and "Artist of the Year" categories. In all four categories, BTS were originally at No.1 ahead of EXO, but Mnet's vote clean-up saw hundreds of thousands of fake votes be deleted, and this has resulted in EXO overtaking BTS for the top spot in each category.
This was far from the only categories to have major place changes, but thankfully, a K-pop fan with the Twitter handle @OH_mes took the time out to sum up the changes pre and post vote clean-up for each category and shared the updated results (at the time of writing) onto Twitter.
Of course, there is still a few weeks of voting left so these positions may very well change before the first MAMA event takes place in Vietnam at the end of the month.
