As we reach the tail end of 2017, renowned publication TIME Magazine compiles its annual list of most influential people of the past 12 months. Just released was TIME's 30 Most Influential Teens of 2017, and making the list was not 1 but 2 Asian stars!
First up on the list is 16-year-old Han Hyun Min, who is most famous for being a model in Korea. Due to his half Nigerian, half Korean background, Han says that he was "often made to feel ashamed of his appearance," telling TIME that “There are so many prejudices about darker skinned people in South Korea. When I was in kindergarten, some of the mothers in the playground would tell my friends, ‘Don’t play with him. If you play with him, you will become darker too.’”
However, he has managed to fight through adversity to become one of the most sought-after fashion models in Korea, saying that “My dream is now a reality and I want those like me to feel they can achieve the same.”
Next up on the Most Influential Teens of 2017 list is C-pop superstar Wang Yuan, who is most famous for being part of the massively popular C-pop trio TFBoys. Not only has TFBoys racked up over 20 million fans on Weibo, as well as ruled the charts ever since they debuted four years ago, Wang has also established himself as a big solo act, having appeared in several movie and TV roles. Couple that with his appointment has a UNICEF Special Advocate for Education, Wang has certainly earned his spot on TIME's list. The kicker? He's only 16 years old!
A big congrats to Han Hyun Min and Wang Yuan for making it into TIME Magazine's Top 30 Most Influential Teens of 2017!
