**Spoiler Alert for Pokemon: I Choose You!**
Fans aren’t too happy about a certain scene in the latest Pokemon film, Pokemon: I Choose You!
Kunihiko Yuyama’s Pokemon: I Choose You! is a retelling of Ash’s early adventures in the Kanto region, marking the 20th anniversary of the series’ debut. The film was criticised by fans for replacing Ash’s nostalgic companions Misty and Brock with new characters.
Fans on Twitter aren't sure what to think about Pikachu being able to speak a human language. In the original Pokemon series, only Meowth from Team Rocket can talk to humans; an idea introduced in an episode that is considered by many to be one of the best. Over the 1000 episode long series, Pikachu has only expressed himself by saying his name like any other Pokemon.
In the film’s final scene, after Ash shields a weakened Pikachu from a series of attacks from enraged Pokemon and is about to die, a vision of Pikachu comes to him and talks in a soft feminine voice. For fans of the 20-year-long franchise, this is very weird.
In many ways, Pokemon: I Choose You! Is a retelling of the original Pokemon anime, but in more ways, it’s an abstract director’s take on the friendship between Ash and Pikachu.
