For those who are unaware, all men aged 18 to 35 in South Korea are required to serve in the Korean army for approximately 21 months, depending on the enlisted branch - including celebrities and K-pop idols.
Enlistment often leads to K-pop groups missing a number of members during their promotions, or in a worst case scenario for K-pop fans, a group may even have to take a hiatus while members complete their service.
With a number of stars who have yet to enlist, here are 8 K-pop groups and idols who will join the Korean military in 2018 (or very soon).
8. Jo Kwon
Given that Jo Kwon is turning 30 (in Korea) this year, he'll have to enlist in 2018 at some point.
7. F.T. Island
There's still some time for F.T. Island before that have to enlist, but for the oldest members, Jonghoon and Hongki, they will certainly be the first to head off to the military.
As Yonghwa and Jonghyun are the oldest members of the group at 30 and 29 (respectively), they will be the first to enlist and will most likely do so at some point in 2018.
While the boys have to stresses of their own company to think about these days, HIGHLIGHT also have to worry about their fast-approaching enlistment date as all members are over 25 years old. First up will be leader Doojoon and Junhyung as both members will be 30 (in Korea) in 2018 and thus will have to enlist within the next 12 months or so.
It's not just the current members of BEAST/HIGHLIGHT who will be enlisting soon. Former member Hyunseung is also turning 30 (in Korea) in 2018 and will also be joining his ex-group members in the military soon.
The group have stated that their 2016 album "Gentlemen's Game" will be their final release before everyone (except Nichkhun) enlists. So far, Taecyeon has enlisted and the remaining members are expected to join him in 2018.
The group may be holding on strong after Hoya's departure, but leader Sunggyu is turning 30 (in Korea) this year and will be enlisting in 2018 soon.
The future of SHINee remains up in the air following Jonghyun's death at the end of 2017, as well as Onew's upcoming enlistment in 2018 as he will be turning 30 (in Korea) this year and thus must join the military soon.
Yes, even a group like BIGBANG will have to enlist. With T.O.P already gone, the clock is ticking for the remaining 4 members. With G-Dragon turning 30 (in Korea) this year, Taeyang planning to get married in a few months time before enlisting, and Daesung and Seungri getting ready to say bye, we'll have to get ready to a world without BIGBANG for 2 years very soon.
