Listen to Joey and AkiDearest's anime-inspired J-pop and J-rock recommendations right here:

Every Tuesday, YouTubers Joey the Anime Man and Aki Dearest join forces to bring you The Anime Show, an hour that covers what’s hot, what’s not, what’s new and what you should be watching in the world of anime!

In the latest episode, Joey and Aki decide to dive into the world of J-pop and J-rock. As both YouTubers are well ingrained in the J-pop and J-rock worlds due to their time in Japan, the duo have decided to come up with a recommendation list for those wanting to get into Japanese pop and rock music.

And yes, a few of these artist recommendations were inspired by anime!

So without further ado, here are Joey and Aki's J-pop and J-rock recommendations for those wanting to get into Japanese music:

  • Bump of Chicken (One of Joey's first J-rock loves)
  • Flumpool (Another one of Joey's first J-rock loves)
  • The Pillows (Introduced to Aki via one of her favourite anime shows FLCL (Fooly Cooly))
  • Early 2000s opening anime theme songs (Joey and Aki loved the fast and furious sound of those days, such as "Caramelldansen")
  • Music from Satoshi Kon works (Joey and Aki LOVE Satoshi Kon's work and music is a big part of it)
  • The openings to Naruto and Bleach (artists like Orange RangeSCANDAL, and Uverworld)
