Last time we checked in with Utada Hikaru, she had shared a snippet of a new song tied to a carbonated beverage. But she still hadn’t shared any information about a new album that was supposed to come out this year. Well, the J-pop superstar has now revealed more info about that full-length... and her first tour in 12 years. Watch the clip of “Play A Love Song” below.
First, the album, since it arrives relatively soon. Titled Hatsukoi (translated to “First Love,” where have I heard that one before), it is her first release since 2016’s comeback set Fantome. According to the news announcement posted on her official website, the album is “written in simple and precise words to express all the unsaid feelings and emotions everyone can relate to with beautifully written melodies that everybody feels warm inside.” The album is set to have 12 songs on it, including “Play A Love Song,” “Forevermore,” “Chikai” and more. It’s out June 27.
“The album Hatsukoi is filled with inspiring and heartwarming emotions in such a way that only an iconic pop creator Hikaru Utada can magically come across through her creativity and it shows the world that Hikaru Utada keeps on and will keep on staying on her prime for 2 more decades,” the news post goes on to say.
Fans probably don’t need extra incentive to pick up a copy of it, but each physical copy comes with a lottery ticket that could help them land tickets to her Japan tour happening later this year. And it’s not your regular promo jaunt. The nationwide tour will be her first such tour since 2006. It starts on November 6 in Yokohama before happening in Fukuoka, Osaka, Saitama and Chiba (with the latter two being Tokyo shows, more or less).
Stay tuned for more news related to Utada’s 2018 comeback.
